Cultural Exchange
Sri Lanka is a multi-ethnic and religious nation. One of the key elements identified in building social cohesion and harmony among the diverse communities is cultural exchange activities. Sevalanka has also been engaged in many activities that encompassed cultural exchange mainly during the programs implemented after the cessation of 30 year prolonged conflict that ended in May 2009.
Music cuts through all barriers and boundaries, helping people to connect and immerse themselves in multiple cultures and experiences. The Music Cooperation between Sri Lanka and Norway was established in 2009 with the overarching goal of facilitating cross cultural spaces for local music expressions with particular emphasis on folk and traditional art forms thereby contributing to the peace and reconciliation process of Sri Lanka.
The Music Cooperation provides opportunities for Sri Lankans from all geographical areas to gather through their interest in music, and once there, creates a platform of mutual interest – bounded by time and space – for potential dialogue, exchange of ideas and knowledge, and the forging of personal bonds. Here, it acts as a bridge, creating the means for connection and sharing.
The Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation is funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, and implemented by Kulturtanken, Arts for Young Audiences, (formerly Concerts Norway) and Sevalanka Foundation. For more information visit www.musiccooperation.org

School Concert Series
The school concert series (school tours) stem from the enjoyment of the children at the Children Festivals. The school concert series (School Tours) aims to present school children with quality concerts which help them to learn about Sri Lankan cultural traditions besides their own , giving a musical life to the words in textbooks which tell them about the different Sri Lankan communities and their traditions and most importantly to inspire kids with these performances. Currently the Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation is working with artists to train them to work very particularly with engaging young audiences, and work with teachers to help create a sense of anticipatory excitement for the tours. The selected artists will together tour a route taking them across Sri Lanka, working closely with folk artists.
